Exploration & Workover RigsXDR's Electric Workover Rig Package — a fully electric, road-legal, zone-rated workover system engineered for European well servicing. All the power of a diesel, all the time — constant torque from the electric drive — with significantly reduced emissions, lower noise, and no transport permits. On the road in approximately 30 minutes.

MOL is actively exploring across Central & Eastern Europe — including a new oil discovery in Western Hungary in 2025 — while Shape Tomorrow 2030+ raises the bar on emissions, logistics, and social licence. The rigs that win here are clean, compliant, and instantly mobile.
~90.4 mboepd (2023). Active production across CEE, the Caucasus and beyond — Hungary, Croatia, Romania at the core.
A 2025 onshore oil discovery — fresh drilling and workover activity on European soil, right now.
An explicit decarbonisation and energy-transition strategy — pressure on Scope 1 emissions and operating footprint.
Heavy, oversized rigs need permits, escorts and route planning to cross European roads.
Conventional power runs against decarbonisation targets and tightening EU environmental rules.
Guy ropes and long mobilisation burn days per move — and days are wells.
ATEX and EU regulatory gaps add approval time and risk before a rig can even spud.
European E&P needs a package that moves in-gauge, runs far cleaner, and is compliant out of the box.
XDR — Exploration Drill Rigs — has designed and built workover rigs since 2007, with a dedicated engineering and manufacturing base. The Electric Workover Rig Package is trailer-mounted, rapid to rig up, and fully electric — rig, catwalk and mud trailer as one integrated system.

At its heart is a single 550 kW electric motor, VFD-controlled — delivering all the power of a large diesel unit, available all the time, with smooth constant torque across the whole range and significantly reduced emissions, low noise, and extremely low maintenance — a single wire-rope drill line with no travelling blocks means far fewer wearing parts. Drive motors power down automatically when idle, and the system recovers energy when lowering into the wellbore. Well servicing that fits a decarbonisation strategy rather than fighting it.

Engineered to European road-gauge — within road width and axle regulations — so it transports across EU member states without escorts or special permits, and mobilises in fewer loads than a conventional package. A steerable tri-axle handles tight, congested well sites, and setup takes approximately 30 minutes versus 120 for a conventional hoist. Across MOL's Hungarian, Croatian and Romanian acreage, that's days saved on every move.
Mobilises in fewer truckloads — lower transport cost, less road impact, faster set-up.
Guy-rope-free mast. Minimal crew, minimal footprint — vs ~120 min conventional.
Move across CEE assets fast — fewer idle days, faster well turnover.
The package is zone-rated for hazardous areas: Zone 1 to a 5 m radius and Zone 2 to 7.5 m, with a full zone-rated mast. All in-zone electronics are IECEx or ATEX certified, sheaves are anti-static, and cylinders are earth-bonded against static discharge. Hazardous-area compliance engineered in — meeting stringent European requirements and de-risking the path from mobilisation to spud.
Full zone-rated mast; in-zone electronics IECEx / ATEX certified.
Anti-static sheaves and earth-bonded cylinders prevent static discharge.
Hazardous-area compliance built in shortens the route to operating approval.
Engineered for safety
Every package is built to SIL2-confirmed safety, achieving SIL3 performance through safety stacking — and runs on XDR Xenon, the rig telemetry and control operating system. It integrates the plant so a smaller crew can run it, streams live telemetry to operators and well owners, logs 12 months of black-box data, and flags maintenance before it bites. SCADA-ready and fully integratable, with a driller HMI customisable to your requirements.
Achieved through safety stacking; designed to international standards with full SIL analysis.
Live telemetry & remote diagnostics, 12-month black-box logging, predictive maintenance — integratable into your systems, HMI to your spec.
Emergency brakes, overpull protection, certified man-riding floor, real-time mast-zone monitoring and controlled mast lowering.
API 4F certifies a mast for vertical and wind loads — but not the lateral side-pull and off-axis forces that quietly shift a rig's centre of gravity and lead to rollover. IntelliBeam™ is XDR's patented stability-monitoring system. Load cells in the support pads under each rear jack leg measure the real load going into the ground; the PLC computes the lateral centre of gravity continuously and shows it on the driller's screen — with normal, caution and "do-not-go-further" zones — so the crew sees instability developing long before it becomes dangerous. Wind effects are already built into the readings.

Configured to suit MOL well programmes — supplied as a complete package.
Faster setup, less non-productive time, lighter logistics, extremely low maintenance, and significantly lower fuel and emissions — the gains compound across a well programme into lower operating cost per well and higher annual throughput per rig.
An active CEE explorer with fresh discoveries, an integrated operator across the value chain, and a public decarbonisation strategy. The electric workover package gives MOL E&P a cleaner, faster, lower-cost well-servicing capability that fits both the geology and the ESG mandate.
Live CEE workover and well-servicing demand — exactly where the package excels.
The electric package advances Shape Tomorrow 2030+, not just operations.
Faster setup, less NPT and reduced transport cut the cost of every well serviced.
XDR designs and builds the complete electric workover package — rig, catwalk and mud trailer — fully customisable to your requirements and tailored to MOL's European programme. As the designer and manufacturer, we'd supply it as your own in-house capability and support you from specification through to commissioning. We'd welcome the conversation.
